The Department of Health and Medfen Fertility Clinic provided some information about pregnancy awareness and this summary of it might provide you with helpful information:

  • The aim of the annual pregnancy awareness week is to minimize the deaths under babies as well as mothers. It also aims to minimize the complications for mothers and babies during pregnancies.
  • Pregnant mothers are motivated to start in their first trimester with pre-delivering classes.
  • The pre – delivering medical care addresses issues such as diabetes and infections and many others.
  • Importance of good self-care including healthy nutrition and high standard of hygiene.
  • The role of the father as well as the families is of importance.
  • The mother has the right to choose her companion that will assist her during the birth procedure.
  • Other rights that the pregnant women have is to e.g. to be handled with respect, confidentiality and dignity.
  • Three main areas could be trace as the pregnancy be ended and the baby lost. These are an ectopic pregnancy, a silent pregnancy, and a miscarriage.  One out of hundred pregnancies are ectopic pregnancies and one out of five pregnancies end in a miscarriage.
  • Many mothers may have a miscarriage before even knowing that they are pregnant, at about 14 weeks.  It correlates with statistics that most miscarriages in the mentioned category form 50% – 70% of miscarriages.
  • In some cases, there are no causes of why a miscarriage happens and nothing that the mother did or did not do.
  • When the baby is lost after 24 weeks or dies during the delivering process it is called a silent delivery.
  • The impact of an ectopic pregnancy, a silent delivery or a miscarriage is devasting for the parents.
